Hand/Arm gesticulating - tracking via camera

Hand guestures are such an important part of a performance, it seems a shame not to be able to capture them via camera along with the facial capture.  I don't even mind if I  have to hold two highlighter pens as tracking markers, or record the arm movements in a separate take so that it doesn't confuse the head tracking.  At the moment I lipsync the character and then always have to record a take of me dragging the arms about, but it never looks as natural as it would if the system could record me gesticulating as I speak.

    I'm not saying it has to do full ten poin finger tracking, just moving the arms about would be enough!
    Then it could be used for other cool things, like tracking a tail waving or flapping my hands around and translating that to ear movements on a cat for example.

    Agreed. Shoulder(s), elbow(s), forearm(s), hand(s), chest - (with a look toward heading towards IK).
